It’s often said that if you want to make a change, start local. Pittsburgh, and Pennsylvania more broadly, are no exception to the whirlwind of the news cycle, but it is the goal of Juris not to let important legal and social developments go unexamined – or uncriticized. Earlier this fall, members of our editorial board wrote articles on issues affecting our community, covering topics ranging from healthcare to abortion legislation to gun reform to privacy protections for criminal defendants. In this winter issue, though the topics are diverse, the writing carries one theme throughout: it has purpose. The staff proves that it is, in fact, possible to be both passionate and objective; to learn the facts, criticize the law, and propose solutions. I am very proud to present the Juris 2019-2020 winter issue.
