Benefits of becoming a Joule Member:
Working on Joule: Duquesne Energy & Environmental Law Journal gives you the opportunity to work with like-minded law students with an interest in environmental law, energy law, and other legal areas. Joule members can benefit from cite-checking, legal research and writing, and communication skills, all of which are valuable tools in both the law school classroom and as a future law practitioner. As a member of Joule, all students have the opportunity to receive credits as a staff or board member, and to fulfill the upper-level writing requirement (article staff).
Write-On Competition:
The Board will conduct a summer writing competition for those students who wish to join Joule. Those candidates in good standing after two (2) semesters in the Full-Time Day Division or four (4) semesters in the Part-Time Day or Evening Divisions are eligible to take part in the writing competition. The write-on competition is typically held in the summer before the academic year begins.
If a student is selected for membership, he or she must write a publishable article in the fall if selected as Article Staff or three (3) publishable blogs per academic semester if selected as Legal Voice Staff. All selected Joule Staff members must additionally fulfill his or her physical production responsibilities before graduation in accordance with standards and a schedule established by the Editor-in-Chief. Decisions to extend an invitation to become an Article or Legal Voice Staff member of Joule pursuant to a writing competition are made by the Joule Editorial Board.
