The Duquesne University Law School Appellate Moot Court Board recently participated in the 2013 ABA Arbitration Competition, sending two teams of competitors to the New York regional rounds, held at Pace University on November 16, 2013. \u00a0The first team consisted of 3Ls Kaci Young, Benjamin Trodden, Matthew Capan, and 2L Brandon Uram.\u00a0 The second team included Lindsay Fouse, Jennifer Grab, Anthony Jackson, and Ian Haley, all of whom are 2Ls.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s problem centered on a contract dispute over the sale of real property.\u00a0 The teams began preparing in early October and spent many long hours practicing and scrimmaging each other.\u00a0 Critical to the teams\u2019 preparation was the assistance of coaches Professor Frank Stoy, Keaton Carr, Kate Lewis and Stephen Guzzetti, who worked with the teams on a weekly basis.\u00a0 Each of the coaches were former Appellate Moot Court Board members and competitors in the Arbitration Competition.<\/p>\n

Both teams competed in the first and second round of the competition, finishing with high scores and positive feedback.\u00a0\u00a0 Matt Capan mentions that one of his favorite moments was prevailing over Michigan State University College of Law in the first round of competing, a team which Capan had lost to in the semi-finals of the last year\u2019s competition.\u00a0 Linsday Fouse also commented on her experience stating, \u201cThe skills and techniques we learned are invaluable, and the thrill that my co-counsel, Anthony Jackson, and I got from putting on our case was incredible \u2013 reminding me that law is the right profession for me.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
