{"id":20,"date":"2017-08-23T19:00:12","date_gmt":"2017-08-23T19:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.law.duq.edu\/joule\/?page_id=20"},"modified":"2018-09-05T19:17:04","modified_gmt":"2018-09-05T19:17:04","slug":"membership","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.law.duq.edu\/joule\/membership\/","title":{"rendered":"Membership"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Benefits of becoming a <em>Joule<\/em> Member:<\/h2>\n<p>Working on\u00a0<em>Joule: Duquesne Energy &amp; Environmental Law Journal<\/em>\u00a0gives you the opportunity to work with like-minded law students with an interest in environmental law, energy law, and other legal areas.\u00a0<em>Joule<\/em>\u00a0members can benefit from cite-checking, legal research and writing, and communication skills, all of which are valuable tools in both the law school classroom and as a future law practitioner. As a member of <em>Joule<\/em>, all students have the opportunity to receive credits as a staff or board member, and to fulfill the upper-level writing requirement (article staff).<\/p>\n<h2>Write-On Competition:<\/h2>\n<p>The Board will conduct a summer writing competition for those students who wish to join\u00a0<em>Joule<\/em>. Those candidates in good standing after two (2) semesters in the Full-Time Day Division or four (4) semesters in the Part-Time Day or Evening Divisions are eligible to take part in the writing competition. The write-on competition is typically held in the summer before the academic year begins.<\/p>\n<p>If a student is selected for membership, he or she must write a publishable article in the fall if selected as Article Staff or three (3) publishable blogs per academic semester if selected as Legal Voice Staff. All selected <em>Joule<\/em> Staff members must additionally fulfill his or her physical production responsibilities before graduation in accordance with standards and a schedule established by the Editor-in-Chief.
